Laser procedures now at Kotka Private Hospital: more even skin and a fresher look

Laserprotseduur Kotka Erahaiglas

Acne scars, visible capillaries or loose skin around the eyes can make you want to improve the way your skin looks. The Kotka Private Hospital team now also performs laser procedures to address these concerns: scar treatment and fractional laser resurfacing, laser treatment of blood vessels, and non-surgical eyelid tightening.

Which procedure might be right for you? It all starts with an assessment of your skin and a conversation with a doctor to find a solution that takes into account both your wishes and the treatment options available.

Scar treatment and fractional laser resurfacing: softer scar tissue and smoother skin

Scars left by surgery, injury or acne can make the surface of the skin uneven. The aim of laser treatment is to make scars less noticeable, soften the scar tissue and improve skin texture. Fractional laser resurfacing can also be used to improve skin texture around the mouth or across the whole face.

“Fractional” means that the laser treats the skin in small sections, supporting skin renewal and collagen production. A scar cannot be removed completely, but its appearance can often be improved.

The procedure usually takes about 30–60 minutes, and anaesthesia is used if needed. Treatment is often given as a course, and the result develops gradually.

Scar treatment and fractional laser resurfacing are performed by plastic and reconstructive surgeons Dr Mart Eller, Dr Heiko Atna, Dr Siim Simmo, Dr Isabella Heido-Vendik and Dr Jaak Valdmann.

Laser treatment of blood vessels: fewer visible capillaries and a more even skin tone

Visible capillaries and small vascular lesions around the nose or on the cheeks can make the skin tone look uneven. Laser treatment helps reduce their visibility on both the face and the body.

The laser energy acts on the treated blood vessels, which may then gradually fade. The treatment may be suitable for individual capillaries, star-shaped spider veins and certain haemangiomas and angiomas. Before the procedure, the doctor always assesses the nature of the skin change, as not every red spot needs the same treatment.

The number of sessions depends on the type and extent of the change. The result is assessed once the skin has recovered, and it is worth keeping in mind that treatment does not prevent new visible blood vessels from appearing.

Laser treatment of blood vessels is performed by plastic and reconstructive surgeons Dr Heiko Atna and Dr Mart Eller.

Non-surgical eyelid tightening: a fresher, more rested look

Slightly loose eyelid skin and fine wrinkles can make the face look tired. The laser eyelid procedure supports skin renewal, helps improve skin tone and softens fine wrinkles.

Both the upper and lower eyelid areas can be treated. The procedure takes about 30 minutes; local anaesthesia and eye protection are used. Repeat procedures may be needed to achieve the desired change.

Non-surgical tightening is best suited to mild skin laxity. With more excess skin or pronounced under-eye fat pads, surgery may give a better result. Your doctor will help you choose the right method.

Good to know: skin renewal continues after the procedure

The results of laser resurfacing and eyelid tightening do not appear overnight. Skin renewal continues even after the initial redness or swelling has subsided. With scar treatment, changes can develop over several months, so patience matters as much as the treatment plan.

It is worth allowing time for recovery. After a laser procedure there may be redness, swelling and sensitivity, and after laser resurfacing also flaking or crusting. Your doctor will give you detailed aftercare instructions, and protecting your skin from the sun is an important part of recovery.

Book a consultation

A consultation is the beginning of every outcome – a place where we make the first important decisions together.

During this process, you will receive a doctor’s assessment, understand your possibilities and limitations, and gain a clear overview of what kind of outcome is realistic. If necessary, this also means making a decision not to intervene, as every decision must be justified.
