PRP therapy for hair and skin

PRP therapy supports hair growth and skin renewal using platelet-rich plasma separated from your own blood.

Growth factors in the plasma take part in tissue repair. Injections into the scalp can support thinning hair, while treatment of the face aims for a more even skin texture and a fresher appearance.

The result develops gradually and depends on the condition of your skin and hair and on your individual response to treatment.

About the procedure

The procedure may suit you if you have

  • thinning hair or increased hair loss
  • reduced skin elasticity and tone
  • fine lines or uneven skin texture
  • a wish to support skin renewal with a treatment based on your own blood plasma

Hair loss can have several causes. At the consultation the doctor assesses whether PRP therapy is suitable for your concern or whether another treatment should come first.

Before the procedure

  • At the consultation you tell the doctor about your expectations, your health and the medicines you use.
  • The doctor assesses the area to be treated and explains what the procedure can and cannot do, and its possible side effects.
  • For PRP therapy a sample of blood is taken from your vein and platelet-rich plasma is separated by centrifuge.
  • The plasma is injected with fine needles into the scalp or face. An anaesthetic cream can be used if needed.

Duration

  • Including the time for the anaesthetic cream to take effect, the procedure takes about 45–60 minutes.
  • The length of the course and the interval between procedures are agreed at the consultation. The best possible result may require several procedures and later maintenance treatment.

Recovery

  • The injection sites may be temporarily red, swollen or tender, or show small bruises.
  • After the procedure the doctor gives you instructions for caring for the treated area.
  • Returning to everyday activities depends on how you feel and how your skin reacts.

Changes develop gradually. Assessing the skin and hair growth takes time, and with hair it may be several months before the result is noticeable. The effect of PRP therapy and how long it lasts are individual.

Where to start?

If thinning hair bothers you, or you want to improve your skin quality, start with a consultation. You can describe your concern and expectations, and the doctor can assess whether PRP therapy is a suitable choice for you.

Together we go through the treatment options, the number of procedures and the result you can expect. If needed, the doctor recommends further tests or another method so that treatment is based on your needs.

Book a consultation

A consultation is the beginning of every outcome – a place where we make the first important decisions together.

During this process, you will receive a doctor’s assessment, understand your possibilities and limitations, and gain a clear overview of what kind of outcome is realistic. If necessary, this also means making a decision not to intervene, as every decision must be justified.
