Rosacea is a skin disease that millions of people have to live with. It’s characterized by skin that tends to flush or blush very easily. However, this isn’t the only problem sufferers of this skin disease have to deal with. Other symptoms can include visible blood vessels that appear to be inflamed. Swelling and breakouts similar to acne are other common symptoms. If it gets worse, the skin can seem thicker and feel or look bumpy. In extreme cases, the eyes can become very red and swollen. Fortunately, there are ways to treat this troublesome skin disease, and we are happy to provide patients with treatment for rosacea at our office.
What About Antibiotics?
Since rosacea is caused by bacteria that multiply quickly, it is often treated with antibiotics. These antibiotics are taken by mouth and come in pill form. They tend to work for some patients with rosacea, but not for everyone.
IPL Treatment
Laser or light therapy has been used successfully for many years for the treatment of rosacea. Laser therapy is usually used in tandem with one or two types of acne medications for the most effect. Not every one of our patients is treated with laser or light therapy, however. It depends on the unique situation. Sometimes, when the symptoms of rosacea are not severe, we might use certain redness reducing measures that work by constricting or tightening blood vessels, leading to lesser redness of the skin.
Doing Something About Your Symptoms
It’s not uncommon for many of our patients who had once decided to live with facial redness for the rest of their lives to have normal-looking skin very quickly when using our treatment. Of course, this is not a cure and needs to be done regularly for ongoing results.
