Breast Implants: What You Should Know

Breast implants are often seen as a product that provides the desired larger breasts through a surgical procedure.

While this is true, there are still some details to keep in mind to better understand what implants consist of and what to expect throughout the entire surgical process, including the time allocated for recovery.

Most breast implants are customizable to achieve a natural look, not too large and artificial. It is usually possible to choose the right size, material of the implants, and the desired shape and curvature. When you discuss breast implants with our doctor, the final decision is mostly yours.

If you have decided to get breast implants, you should consult a trustworthy surgeon who will explain the operation process and help you understand what to expect. Take some pictures of breasts you like with you to the surgeon – this way you can provide examples of the desired outcome. Often, this is the best way to decide which implant the surgeon should use and what size is most suitable.

Most implants are made of either silicone or saline solution (water and salt). Silicone implants are most commonly used because they look more natural and feel more natural to the touch than saline-filled implants. While developments have occurred to make the latter more natural, they carry a higher risk of leakage because the solution is injected into the implant during surgery.

The part of the breast implant that comes into contact with your breast tissue is the shell. This outer layer is made of silicone or other material to keep the filler in place even after insertion. In addition to different sizes, various shapes are also available, such as round or teardrop-shaped. The projection (protrusion) also varies, depending on the desired final result.

Breast implants can give you confidence by enlarging and shaping your breasts. Many women desire breast augmentation either simply for larger breasts or to correct asymmetry. Implants help resolve both concerns.

A consultation is the beginning of every outcome – a place where we make the first important decisions together.

During this process, you will receive a doctor’s assessment, understand your possibilities and limitations, and gain a clear overview of what kind of outcome is realistic. If necessary, this also means making a decision not to intervene, as every decision must be justified.
