Laser treatment of haemangiomas, capillaries and angiomas

Visible capillaries and small vascular lesions can make skin tone look uneven. Laser treatment helps reduce how visible they are on the face and body.

The laser energy affects the vessels in the treated area, so they may gradually fade. When planning treatment we take into account the type, size and location of the change and the character of your skin.

The aim is a more even skin tone. The doctor assesses the suitable method and the result you can expect at the consultation.

Hemangioomide, kapillaaride ja angioomide laserravi

About the procedure

The procedure may suit you if you have

  • individual visible capillaries on the face
  • widened superficial vessels around the nose or on the cheeks
  • spider naevi, small star-shaped vascular lesions
  • haemangiomas or angiomas for which the doctor considers laser suitable
  • visible superficial capillaries on the body or legs

Before treatment the doctor assesses the nature of the skin change. Not every red patch or vascular lesion needs, or is suitable for, the same treatment.

Before the procedure

  • At the consultation the doctor examines the area and explains whether laser treatment is suitable for your concern.
  • Tell the doctor about your health, the medicines you use and previous procedures.
  • Protect the skin to be treated from the sun and avoid tanning before the procedure.
  • The doctor explains how treatment is done, possible side effects and whether more than one session may be needed.

Duration

  • How long the procedure takes depends on the number of vessels and the size of the area.
  • We confirm the time needed, and whether repeat procedures may be required, at the consultation.

Recovery

  • After the procedure the treated area may be red or slightly swollen and sensitive.
  • Depending on the laser used and the extent of treatment, there may also be bruises or small crusts.
  • The doctor gives instructions for caring for the skin and protecting it from the sun.
  • How long recovery takes depends on the area treated and how your skin reacts.

The treated vessels may become less noticeable gradually, and the result is assessed after the skin has recovered. More than one procedure is sometimes needed. Treatment does not prevent new visible vessels from forming.

Where to start?

If visible capillaries or vascular lesions bother you, start with a consultation. We identify the skin change and whether laser treatment is a suitable solution.

The doctor assesses the area, explains the result you can expect and talks through how many sessions may be needed, recovery and cost.

Book a consultation

A consultation is the beginning of every outcome – a place where we make the first important decisions together.

During this process, you will receive a doctor’s assessment, understand your possibilities and limitations, and gain a clear overview of what kind of outcome is realistic. If necessary, this also means making a decision not to intervene, as every decision must be justified.
