Circumcision

Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the foreskin is removed for either medical or cosmetic reasons.

The most common medical indications are phimosis (tight foreskin) and paraphimosis (foreskin constriction), which can cause discomfort, pain, or inflammation.

The procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon, and the treatment plan is tailored to the patient’s condition and needs.

About the procedure

Duration of the procedure and important information

  • During the procedure, the foreskin is removed in a circular incision and the wound is sutured
  • Absorbable suture material is used, so the stitches do not need to be removed later
  • The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and lasts up to 60 minutes

Recovery

  • The patient is usually discharged home the evening after the surgery.
  • Postoperative pain management is necessary for 1–2 weeks.
  • The initial wound dressing should be removed the day after surgery; subsequent dressings should be changed twice daily, accompanied by washing the wound beforehand (under lukewarm running water) and cleaning it with an antiseptic.
  • Swelling and bruising will occur in the wound area after surgery, but these will subside within a couple of weeks. During this time, it is advisable to limit physical activity and sports.
  • Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 1.5 months to prevent the wound from tearing.

Where to start?

If you are interested in circumcision, please schedule a consultation with a doctor first. During the consultation, you can discuss your wishes, concerns, and expectations, and the doctor will use their experience to find the solution that best suits you.

During the consultation, we will assess your health, determine the best surgical method, explain the location of scars and any potential complications, and if you are a suitable candidate for surgery, we can schedule your procedure right away.

Our doctors are members of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), communicate in Estonian, Russian, English, and Finnish, and view your body as a unified whole, always striving for the best for you!

Book a consultation

A consultation is the beginning of every outcome – a place where we make the first important decisions together.

During this process, you will receive a doctor’s assessment, understand your possibilities and limitations, and gain a clear overview of what kind of outcome is realistic. If necessary, this also means making a decision not to intervene, as every decision must be justified.
