Are men’s beauty procedures and surgeries no longer a taboo subject? “Indeed, men are increasingly turning to beauty clinics, and no longer quietly or secretly,” says plastic surgeon Heiko Atna.
Are men’s beauty procedures and surgeries truly becoming the norm? Recent years’ statistics show that taboos are breaking, and men are increasingly confidently stepping through the doors of beauty clinics. In America, the proportion of men undergoing cosmetic procedures has grown by as much as 88% in the last 15 years.
In Estonia, plastic surgeon Heiko Atna confirms that the trend is also on the rise here – from botulinum toxin injections to eyelid surgery and breast reduction, men are seeking solutions that would boost self-confidence and improve quality of life. Societal attitudes are changing, and with it, the understanding that beauty and self-care are not merely the domain of women.
Although the proportion of men in beauty clinics’ clientele is still smaller compared to women, it is constantly growing. While there are fewer procedures specifically aimed at men, the need for them is clearly present.
One of the most common surgical interventions is the treatment of gynecomastia, or enlarged male breast tissue. This condition strongly affects a man’s self-confidence, and often only surgery offers a solution.
Another increasingly popular procedure among men is eyelid surgery. Often, this is not only aesthetic but also medical – drooping eyelids can affect vision.
The popularity of botulinum toxin (Botox) injections is also growing. This procedure is quick and discreet, providing a fresher and more rested appearance without those around immediately noticing that something has been changed – this is precisely what is important for many men.
